SHRC seeks info on school fees.

On Thursday, a BC association approached the State Human Rights Commission seeking a direction to the state government to check the exorbitant fees being collected by various corporate schools and colleges in the state.

Represented by its president, Mr G. Nagaraju, vice-president, Mr Vidyasagar, and others, the BC Kulala Aikya Vedika told the Commission that several schools were collecting nearly Rs 50,000 as fees but were giving receipts only for Rs 9,000.

They alleged that the government officials were not able to check the excesses by private institutions as MLAs, MPs and MLCs themselves had acquired partnerships in such private corporate schools, colleges and hospitals.

The association urged the Commission to ensure that the private institutions collect fee as per the rules. It also wanted a ban on advertisements by corporate colleges in newspapers, TV channels and hoardings.

Admitting the petition, the Commission sought a report from the principal secretaries of higher education and secondary education department by June 25.
