IT stream hardest hit at Eamcet counselling.

As many as 78,596 engineering seats remained vacant after the Eamcet seat allotment list of the first phase of counselling was announced here on Sunday.

Of the total 2,12,896 seats available in the convenor quota (SW-I) in 681 colleges, only 1,34,300 seats were filled up.

While ECE, CSE, mechanical and civil engineering streams found quite a good number of takers, IT was the worst hit with few students opting for it.

Eamcet officials have decided to conduct the second phase of counselling in the first week of September to fill vacant seats. With 72,581 students skipping the first phase of couselling out of a total of 2,08,936 students who qualified in the Eamcet engineering stream, a second phase of counselling is now inevitable, said Eamcet officials.

Pharmacy colleges were also hit with only 779 seats being filled out of a total of 9,373 seats.

In the ECE stream, 40,766 seats have been filled out of a total of 54,279 seats. In the CSE stream, only 30,800 have been filled out of a total of 46,239 seats. In the EEE stream, 18,944 seats out of a total of 32,869 found takers.

In all, 17,436 out of 25,281 seats were filled in the Mechanical Engineering stream, while in IT 9,019 out of 19,456 seats were filled. 11,760 out of 18,964 seats were filled in the civil engineering stream and 4,800 out of 6,435 seats

in other streams found takers.

"Students who were allotted seats should report at the respective colleges by August 24 for admissions. They will be given time till August 28 to cancel their admissions. Students should download their seat allotment letter from the Eamcet website and submit it to the respective colleges along with a demand draft from Indian Bank or Andhra Bank towards tuition fee of Rs.31,000. Students eligible for fee reimbursement scheme should not have to pay any fee," said Mr Raghunath, camp officer, Eamcet admissions.
