Nurse / Infant Care Educarers (Childcare / Preschool) Responsibilities: • Prepare a well-planned and stimulating infant /toddler environment that is safe, healthy, pleasant, comfortable, convenient, child-sized, flexible, encourage movement and designed to facilitate choice. • Provide and ensure a daily high standard of health & safety, nursing and routine-care to the infant / toddlers and students which includes feeding e.t.c • Construct individual feeding plan for each infant/toddler that includes instructions from parents/registered medical practitioners, feeding schedule, milk formulas/breast milk/thawing expressed breast milk etc • Assist in the development, implementation and review of infant-care plans • Administering medication to children who need it, and for closely monitoring children with allergies. • Teaching staff proper hygiene and safety procedures such as hand washing, diaper disposal and sanitation, burping, soothing • To be engaged and comfortable with properly handling infants e.g. include the proper feeding and hygiene care of the infant. • Provide opportunities for early language development through repeating sounds the baby makes and also encouraging the mimicking of sounds. Sometimes sign language is also taught as a means of communication. • Provide opportunities for physical development e.g. encouraging the infant to use and develop the muscles in their body, start with neck and head strength, moving to sitting and eventually crawling, scooting and standing. • Provide opportunities for social development e.g. acclimating to peers and teachers and skills such as playing with others, using utensils, holding a cup and sorting. • Care duties include feeding, diaper changes, burping, and soothing • Design a regular schedule of routine activities e.g.eating, playing and sleeping. • Meet the physical and emotional needs of the infants under her care. She should ensure that each infant is safe as well as physically and emotionally cared for. She should also seek to meet each infant's developmental needs by providing social interaction, playing games that encourage skill development and reading to encourage linguistic development. • Plan a daily schedule organised around each infant's/toddler's routines, accommodate the infants'/toddlers' changing needs and at the same time provide some stability and order to the day. • Routines shall take into consideration cultural and religious differences, family background and social mores. • Families shall be consulted regularly on their infants'/toddlers' needs and routines. • Encourage the development of self-help skills (dressing, toileting, washing and eating) as and when the infants/toddlers show signs of readiness. • Record each infant's/toddler's rituals to help establish security and stability. • Develop of an individual needs and service plan for each infant/toddler which include feedling plan, toileting training plan. • Maintain a daily observation record on each infant/toddler such as those on the infant's/toddler/s feeds, naps and bowel movements. • Maintain a profile of infant/toddler development • Encourage family's involvement in health concerns and education in all aspects of child development i.e. physical, social, etc. Requirements: • State Registered Nurse with at least a diploma in Nursing • Minimum 1 yrs in healthcare industry especially in pediatrics • Certificate in Infant/Toddler Care and Development or the Fundamentals Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education (with certification in Infant/Toddler Care) or its equivalent recognised by MCYS • MS Office skills • Service-orientated and able to multi-task in fast-paced environment • A good team player with a pleasant personality • Bilingual in Mandarin and English as some parents can only understand Chinese language • Have knowledge of developmental milestones for different ages and be able to provide activities that help move infants toward those milestones. • Aware of safety concerns for infants and follow safety procedures at all times. Empathize with infants and to intuit their needs despite their lack of verbal communication. • Know symptoms and signs of common illnesses and know the basic treatments for them.
