Job Summary
We are actively looking to hire bright and self-driven engineers with advanced degrees to join our Product Support team at MathWorks! The Application Support Engineer position is divided into two central responsibilities which will provide you with a variety of skills, practical experience and career advancement:
Application support - This will be your primary responsibility. With your product expertise you will help make our customers successful in the usage of our MATLAB and Simulink product lines. This involves resolving customer reported issues in a wide spectrum of products, applications and industries. Collaborating with specialists will help you understand customers' requests and the background of their requests. Having a clear understanding of the issue, you will provide the customer with an appropriate solution. In addition, you act as a customer advocate if the issue requires internal escalation, keeping the customer informed of the progress. By providing feedback to our development organization, you enable the continuous improvement of our product lines. Your post-sales relationship with our customers is important to maintain their satisfaction in the long term. The feedback that you provide to our organization will be very helpful in understanding the needs of our customers.
Collaborative project work - This is an additional career advancement tool available to you at MathWorks where you can discover your professional interests and goals through a variety of projects with multiple departments. These projects can last from one day to several months and can help you define your long term career goals at MathWorks. Projects generally fall within these three areas: Software Development, Business Development and Customer Training.

Projects help you will gain insight into the different technical roles that make up a successful software company. This insight can be very influential in helping you define your long term career goals. Below is a sample of the most common projects that our engineers work on:
Software Development - Work with our Engineering team to implement an algorithm or GUI for a future release of one of our 80+ products. Or help to develop automated tests to verify that features in MATLAB are working as designed.
Business Development - Demonstrate the newest features of MATLAB and Simulink at trade shows with our Technical Marketing group. Help increase revenue by delivering one-on-one technical presentations to potential customers. Investigate the latest technologies and market trends.
Customer Training - Consult with our customers to develop custom applications for them and contribute in delivering customized product training courses to visiting customers at our in-house training facility.
Transfer Areas:
As an Application Support Engineer, you will learn about many MathWorks departments and the opportunities for your long term growth. Through your choice of technical projects, training and career coaching, you will be able to contribute to different areas at MathWorks and accelerate developing your technical leadership skills.
You have the opportunity to transfer into a variety of technical roles. The most common departments where engineers have transferred are listed below:
Engineering - Develop software tools for the world's leading scientific, engineering, and financial experts. For eg., Control Design Automation tools.
Quality Engineering - Test our products by developing automated test suites using our exclusive automated testing environment.
Application Engineering - Assist sales in generating revenue by creating and delivering demonstrations to potential customers that showcase how to use our tools to solve their engineering problems.
Product Training & Technical Marketing - Design, develop, and deliver product training courses to external customers throughout India and also participate in creating & maintaining product awareness through your business acumen.
Qualifications Required / Preferred
Masters or Ph.D in Engineering (i.e. Electrical or Mechanical or Computer Science) or equivalent Strong academic record
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
Strong programming skills and knowledge of at least one operating system
0-3 years of IT work experience
Skills in model based design and/or production code generation
Strong commitment to learning and personal development
Flexibility to work a rotation schedule within the hours of operation
Having two or more of the skills listed below is a plus:
