Sham I.T. firm shuts shop, staff stages dharna.
Around 1,500 employees of Prodigy Solutions, a fraud IT company operating out of Cyber Towers, sat on a dharna outside the building on Saturday after the company had shut shop and fled with deposits of the employees.
The IT minister, Mr Ponnala Lakshmaiah, who has ordered an enquiry into the scam, had earlier inaugurated the company in January, and later its branch in Warangal. The employees of the firm had booked a case with the Madhapur police under IPC Section 420 (cheating), after they could not trace the CEO, Murali Radhakrishna, who might have absconded with at least Rs 16 crore collected from 1,600 B.Tech students and security deposits of employees, ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh.
"The employees had given huge amounts as deposit money to the company and the stipend of Rs 5,000 had been withheld for the last three months," said Madhapur inspector, Mr Lakshmikanth Reddy. The company has also not return the certificates of its estimated 30,000 employees and trainees.
Meanwhile, the IT minister said, "I was invited to inaugurate the office. I must have inaugurated 50-100 offices. However, such fraud will not be tolerated and action will be taken against the proprietor."
