Role Summary/Purpose

The Engineer will be responsible for controls design of Smart Loco energy management products, like Trip Optimizer, Trip Advisor and Smartburn, for an embedded computing platform on a locomotive. In this role, you will focus on system design and risk tradeoffs around new customer requirements and any field reliability issues.
Essential Responsibilities
- Develop Matlab based control models, subsystem design specifications, failure modes and effect analysis, DFSS Scorecard and system validation specifications; Six Sigma and Tollgate process execution
- Engage with other engineers on team expected
- Interact with Marketing, Sales, Quality organization and customers per project need
- Develop practical and innovative ways to identify and meet goals
- Be responsible for work that is less defined in scope and has the understanding and experience to execute business objectives, which can affect short-term and some long-term business goals
- Execute the design, analysis or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures and product / program requirements
- Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures
- Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
- Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues
- Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor/Masters of Engineering in Electrical/Electronics/Instrumentation from reputed Institute/college/University.
- 1 to 5 years of experience in an engineering position primarily control system design & validation
- Experience in MATLAB Simulink for simulation and mathematical modeling
- Aerospace / automotive / locomotive / electrical drives domain knowledge
Desired Characteristics
- Understanding of AC/DC drive technology.
- Understanding of Communication system protocols like Ethernet, cell modem, WLAN (802.11), GPS
- Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems.
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Understanding of latest software technologies.
- Experience with embedded control systems
- Experience with locomotive operations - maintenance, dispatch, crew, signaling
