Department Description
The Axiom is a highly available, highly scalable, multi-protocol, storage server. The Platform Software Group performs a diversified role that is pivotal to the Axiom storage product. The group is responsible for a number of drivers and systems level services layered on top of the OS for the Axiom line of storage products. The Operating Systems used include Oracle Linux and QNX; drivers include those used for internode communications (over various technologies including FC, SAS, IB); services include high-availability, logging, memory management, diagnostics, etc. Most engineers in the group have a strong knowledge of systems software, and have the willingness and capability of diving into various areas of code. At one end of the spectrum the group is responsible for the boot loader used in the product; at the other end it is responsible for packaging and delivering the image that runs on the Axiom product.

Detailed Description
As a manager of the software engineering division, you will apply your knowledge of software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications, operating systems and databases according to provided design specifications. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and occasionally suggest improvements to the architecture.
Job Requirements
Leads a specialized area which may have diverse functional elements. Frequently interacts with supervisors and/or functional peer group managers. May interact with senior management. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills. Strong communication skills, analytical skills, thorough understanding of product development. BS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. Typically one year of software engineering or related experience.

Job Description:
The position of Sustaining Engineering Manager for the Axiom Platform Software Group involves providing all local support to Platform Software sustaining engineering team. The individual will be the team manager for the team we have in Bangalore, India. As such, they are expected to be the primary interface between the Platform Software Team and the Customer Service team. S/He will be responsible for managing all escalations into the Platform Software engineering department by the Customer Service team. This includes tracking all outstanding escalations, delegating escalations to individuals with the appropriate skill set, and driving team members to provide timely solutions. The must be able to field calls at any time of the day or night, depending how when customer issues are escalated into engineering. As a team manager the candidate would be expected to handle the technical aspects of some of these escalations themselves and to contribute to the triage process. The candidate is expected to provide regular status reports to me on the current escalation workload. The sustaining engineering team may often work on enhancements (RFEs) to the product, and the manager is expected to manage these mini-projects.
Essential Functions:
Act as the interface to local HR in arranging Visas and travel to the United States for training.
Responsible for all levels of interaction with Customer Service representatives in a 24x7enterprise environment, including diagnosis, problem reproduction, and ultimateresolution.
Responsible for ensuring all levels of Pillar Support's customer satisfaction goals are met.
Responsible for providing status on all defects and projects being handled by the Platform Software sustaining team.
Participates and contributes in reviews of design, code, and documentation as needed.
Works as an effectivemember of a cohesive development team.
Ability to effectively motivate and manage engineering resources.
Must have proven skills in leading or managing teams of 5 or more engineers.
