Kolkata Port Trust
Commissioned in 1870 Kolkata Port has recently celebrated its 141st birthday. The journey of the Port continues through the tortuous process of ebb and tide, expectancy and despair, intricately woven with the varying draft/ siltation of the river Hooghly as it continues to adapt and re-engineer itself in newer locales and functions.Kolkata, the first Major Port of India, was once the premier port of the country but since 1966-67 faced a steady decline in its fortunes being relegated to third, fourth, fifth and sixth positions. However due to wholehearted efforts of all, there had been a steady flourish in cargo and vessel handling and in different spheres of Port activity from 2004-05 to 2007-08 when our only riverine Port was positioned in the second and third slots respectively, competing with other sea ports of the country.here prevailed a slight lull since 2008-09 with some adverse geo-morphological changes in the river regime, a general economic downturn and a flight of POL Crude cargo to a neighbouring port. In 2010-11 we handled 47.545 million tonnes of cargo with the distinction of handling the highest number of vessels.

Stenographer : 25
Age : Age should not be below 40 years.
Qualifications and experience :
i) Matriculation or its equivalent from recognised Board. Preference will be given to the candidates possessing higher educational qualification.
ii) The candidates must possess minimum speed of 120 words per minute in Shorthand and 40 words per minute in Typing.
iii) Proficiency in computer application is essential.
iv) Working experience should be at least 10 years.
Law Clerk : one
Age : From 25 to 40 years on the last date of submission of application
Qualification : Graduation from a recognized University /Institute.
Experience : At least 2 years practicing experience as the Clerk of an Advocate and/or solicitor firm with supporting documents
Desirable : Familiarity with Computer
Law Assistant : two
Age : From 25 to 50 years on the last date of submission of application
Qualification : LLB Degree from a recognized University /Institute.
Experience : At least 2 years practicing experience in civil and Criminal courts with supporting documents. Preference will be given to those who have been practicing in civil court practice.
Desirable : Familiarity with Computer
Assistant Scientific Officer, : one
Age : At least 40 years on the last date of submission of application
Qualification : Post Graduate Degree in Statistics/ Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ Electronics/ Geology/ Hydrology/ Computer Science or Degree in Engineering/ Environmental Science or Engineering.
Experience : 10 years in the relevant field
Desirable : Exposure to research/ investigation/ studies pertaining to river hydraulics and/or allied subjects with knowledge of computer application
Asstt. Engineers (Civil),: two
Age : At least 40 years on the last date of submission of application
Qualification : Degree of Civil Engineering from a recognized University /Institute.
Experience : 10 years in the relevant field
Desirable : Exposure to river training works/ estimation of river-related works with knowledge of computer application
Law Officer, : one
Age : From 25 to 50 years on the last date of submission of application
ii Qualification : LLB Degree from a recognized University /Institute.
iii Experience : At least 3 years practicing experience in Civil and Criminal courts with supporting documents. Preference will be given to those who have been practicing in Civil court.
iv Desirable : Familiarity with Computer
General Instructions:
(i) The engagement will be for a period of one year and on expiry of the said period, thecontractual engagement will be automatically terminated. However, on expiry of thecontract, KoPT reserves the right to enter into a fresh contract for such period and onsuch terms as may be mutually agreed upon by the parties.
(ii) The -ed candidate will be paid a fixed consolidated remuneration of Rs.10400/ permonth.
(iii) The -ed candidate may avail of the facility of KoPT accommodation (unfurnished)on payment of license fee/ rent, as applicable. In addition, electricity charges shall haveto be borne by the candidate at actual.
(iv) The -ed candidate will be required to work at any place/ office within thejurisdiction of KoPT.
(v) The -ed candidate will be required to work full time for 5/6 days (as applicable atthe place of work/office) in a week and will normally be entitled to a weekly off-day.However, in case of necessity, he may be required to work on Saturdays (where it isfive days a week.),
(vi) The -ed candidate will be entitled to 15 days leave in a year (12 months from thedate of engagement and proportionate in case of engagement for a lesser period) whichmay be availed of with prior approval. For any unauthorized absence in excess ofadmissible leave, prorata deduction will be made from the consolidated remuneration.
(vii) Additionally, sick leave to the extent of 10 days in a year (12 months from the date ofengagement and proportionate in case of engagement for a lesser period) on the groundof illness may be allowed without any deduction from the remuneration, on the basis ofcertification from the KoPT Medical Officer.
(viii) The -ed candidate will be entitled to indoor and outdoor medical facilities as areavailable in KoPT Centenary Hospital for self only. However, no reimbursement formedicine/ medical articles purchased from outside, diagnostic tests done outside ortreatment received outside, will be allowed.
(ix) The contractual engagement may also be terminated by giving one month's notice fromeither side. However, the engagement is terminable on 24 hours' notice forunsatisfactory performance and/or for any act considered to be derogatory/ detrimentalto the interest of the Kolkata Port Trust.
